Reserva Geobotanica Pululahua

Está desde 1800 a 3300 msnm (5900 to 10800 ft) ubicada al norte del Volcan Pichincha con 3383 hectareas (8359.27 acres).  Este fantastico lugar, muy cerca de la Mitad del Mundo, ha sido nuestra casa por 5 años. El nombre “pululahua” es una palabra quichua que significa humo de agua. Este nombre coincide con lo que ocurre frecuentemente en el volcan cada tarde, la neblina cae entre las tre y cuatro de la tarde esta humedad viene del oeste.  Haga un Click para obtener información más detallada.

Pululahua es un gran lugar para observar una buena variedad de aves que viven en este micro-clima tan especial como lo es una tierra volcanica. Hay algunos senderos que cubren diferentes altitudes entre faciles, medianos, y dificiles depende de sus intereses podemos estar en Pululahua medio dia, un dia completo o varios dias si lo prefiere.  Pululahua es el habitat ideal del Rusty-breasted Antpitta no se habia registrado en esta localidad hasta el 2003. También el raro White-tailed Shrike-Tyrant que habita en las areas semiaridas cerca de Calacalí.  Con un poco de paciencia y suerte veremos al exótico Tapaculo Oceleado que vive en la montaña de bamboo (chusquea), o al  vocalizador Ash-colored Tapaculo y el Blackish Tapaculo.   También se puede ver el misterioso Buho Terrestre encontrado en su madrigera de tierra arenosa en plena luz del día.  Esta reserva continua sorprendiendonos con nuevas especies.
